WOMEN IN FILM AND MEDIA
Pittsburgh Chapter
Statement of Purpose
Women In Film and Media of Pittsburgh is
dedicated to improving the status and portrayal of women in film, video
and other screen based media. With emphasis on education, we serve our
members and the community by providing access to
opportunities in the industry and working with other non-profits
dedicated to helping women and children. We are passionate about our
vision to empower, promote, support, and mentor the community through a
network of valuable program, contacts and events.
Benefits of WIFM Pittsburgh
- Central connection for people
interested in film, television and other screen based media including
directors, producers, talent, camera operators, writers, et cetera.
- National and international recognition through Women In Film and Television International (WIFTI) www.wifti.com
- Ability to connect with others who share similar interests.
- Central directory describing abilities, resources, and ongoing projects.
- An organization that will allow people to broaden their horizons by working with others.
Breakfasts and/or dinners will
be planned to promote awareness of the organization in the community as
well as assisting in educating the members. They will bring people
together to learn how they can serve the community and others.
Each breakfast/dinner will
include a speaker who will be chosen on their position in the industry,
whether film, television or other media; to educate and inform.
These events will not only
serve our members, but also the community by providing access to
opportunities, supporting the work of our members, fostering greater
public awareness of their efforts and encouraging high standards of
professionalism.
PSA Program
A program that has been formed
to develop, produce, and distribute Public Service Announcements (PSA)
on issues crucial to women and children. These PSA's will be produced
for non-profit organizations throughout the Pittsburgh area who do not
have the funds to produce a PSA for themselves. The development,
production and post-production of the PSA will be accomplished by
volunteers who are members of WIFM.
By taking on the production of
the PSA for a local non-profit, WIFM will be linking with the community
to help themselves. In addition, the PSA will draw members together to
help them gain experience, learn new skills, take on new projects, and
further develop their education on how film/video is produced.
Workshops
Various workshops will be
introduced as the organization grows to further the education of the
members. These workshops will include, Writing Workshops, Actor
Workshops, Producing Workshops and other workshops as requested by the
members.
Each workshop will be conducted
by an experienced person in that field and will include a complete
education program to help members gain more tools to further their
careers in particular fields.
Outreach
WIFM will strive to work with
local community organizations that assist women and children,
specifically non-profit organizations. These organizations will be
chosen based on the following criteria.
- What they do to assist women and children and their goals.
- Non-profit status.
- Programs they currently have in place.
- Their funding procedures and whether or not they would need our assistance.
- Relationships with other organizations that may already have a mentoring program in place.
- Their past relationships and history working with other organizations and what their future goals are.
